Sonia Laris 6th. Jim All-in 7th. Amos The Ace 8th. With Adam Bet Basil as a no show with no sub and eddie taking leave of the league only 8 runners played.
Sadly Nikolay Evdakov has passed away. The cause of Evdakov’s death is unknown, but his wife Nataliya made the news public on the Russian poker forum cgm.ru. Evdakov’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Troekurov Cemetery in Moscow.
Evdakov made a name for himself in the poker world when he set a record by cashing 10 times at the 2008 World Series of Poker, besting the mark of eight previously held by Michael Binger, Chad Brown, Phil Hellmuth and Humberto Brenes. His achievement helped him earn a sponsorship deal with Full Tilt Poker, where he became a regular at mid- and high-stakes tournaments on the site.
Evdakov’s biggest cash came at the 2011 WSOP $25,000 Heads Up Championship, where he took seventh place for $138,853. His only other six-figure score came at the WSOP $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, where he finished fourth for $110,628.
On Tuesday, Alex Kravchenko, Sergei Rybachenko and Alex Kostritsyn, among others, had many kind words to say about Evdakov after learning of his death.
Everyone at Duke Street Poker sends its condolences to Evdakov’s family and friends during this difficult time. We will add to this report as further information becomes available.
A group of poker players owe Full Tilt Poker about $18 million, a person familiar with the situation told Card Players.
Earlier on Thursday, PokerStrategy.com reported that Behnam Dayanim, an attorney for the French investment group seeking to purchase the company, said that money owed from Phil Ivey, Layne Flack, David Benyamine, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein, Mike Matusow and others could create “a serious obstacle to completion of the deal.”
Dayanim added: “This isn’t the only issue with the takeover, and the deal won’t end on any one issue — but this is a substantial item.”
According to Card Player’s source, Ivey and Lindgren both owe $4 million to the site, while Benyamine and Flack owe $2 million apiece. Matusow and Greenstein owe less.
Both Benyamine and Flack have been in debt to the site since 2007, according to the source.
Card Players were told that the debts amounting to about $18 million are on the books, and that Groupe Bernard Tapie has known about it for months.
From April 2012 Team D.S.P will be hitting Leeds Manchester & Blackpool Casinos. In order to hit the Vegas strip running in Sep all four players know they need to play at least two large Multi table tournaments every month. So make sure you all follow us on twitter and facebook.
The hands may have slowed down a bit on PokerStars since Black Friday, but that doesn’t mean the action isn’t still fast and furious at the world’s largest online poker room. And just as the beat goes on, so does the march towards 100 billion hands. In the meantime, there are some other milestone hands to pass on the way to the big one-oh-oh (with a bunch more “oh’s” after that). Next up: 75 billion. To celebrate, as PokerStars is wont to do, the poker room is giving away up to a million dollars over the next several days as part of its “Road to 100 Billion” promotion.
The promotion is quite simple. All players have to do for a chance to win is play at any real money ring game table. The good news in this promo is that everyone has the same chance to win. High stakes players are at no real advantage over micro stakes players. The bad news is that it is all luck, as the way to win is to be dealt into a millionth hand (ex: 74,801,000,000 or 74,950,000,000).
But, if you are one of the lucky ones to be dealt into a milestone hand, you could receive quite the windfall. Anyone dealt into one of the millionth hands will receive a base cash prize of $20 plus $60 multiplied by the number of VIP Player Points (VPPs) earned during the previous 50 hands at that table (note: it’s the VPPs at that table, not across all tables). For example, someone who is dealt into a milestone hand and has earned 28 VPPs in the previous 50 hands at that same table will win $1,700 ($20 base prize + $60 x 28). Whoever wins the milestone hand will have their prize doubled.
